Keith Wood brings to the panel some real world views of someone ‘on the frontline’ and drawing on personal experience gained from an entire 38-year professional career being involved with planning and managing live music events and international concert touring sector.
“Having got first foot on ladder in 1979 whilst at Salford University as students union social sec / promoter – booking artists such as The Jam, Blondie ,Boomtown Rats, I decided to continue in same direction and managed to join Adrian Hopkins Promotions an established concert promoter/artist manager/tour merch company.
On the second day in the job I was sent on tour with Genesis, followed by many years working with major artists such as Thin Lizzy, Peter Gabriel, Johnny Cash, Ozzy Osbourne Phil Collins, Dire Straits, Van Morrison, Torvill & Dean; working throughout UK Europe US Canada and Japan
In 1994 I was hired by John Giddings at SOLO-ITG . They had a roster of major touring artists such as David Bowie, Phil Collins, The Corrs, Genesis and S Club 7. During my 7 years at SOLO we moved up to promoting outdoor stadium shows with The Rolling Stones, Celine Dion, Mike Oldfield and Formula1 British GP post race concert.
Solo became partner with Princes Trust /CapitalFM in creating the first annual Party In The Park event in Hyde Park, with a capacity of 100,000. I was responsible for site design and managing build of concert site, procuring infrastructure suppliers and overseeing health and safety and planing with local authority
I was seconded to (intl partner of Solo-ITG) TNA the world tour promoter of U2 POPMART TOUR, to be their Site Co-ordinatior for 3 month tour of European football stadium shows.
Then came a period working for ITB. (Diana Ross, Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Lenny Kravitz). The highlight was Simon and Garfunkel’s reunion show for 65,000 in Hyde Park.
In 2004 I was approached by AEG LIVE to run Bon Jovi’s football stadium shows. This became full time position, ending up as AEG Director International Production. Notable projects /tours include The Who, Beyonce, Guns and Roses, Prince’s 21 nights at The O2, Rod Stewart, Lady Gaga, Jay-Z , Britney Spears, Producer Jesus Christ Superstar’s arena tour, producer Stephen Lawrence’s 20yr anniversary concert, Michael Jackson’s This is it 50 shows at 02 , plus several years with Bon Jovi touring European stadiums. For 5 years, I was AEG’s site manager at Wembley Stadium with the Summertime Ball
In 2014 I was technical production manager for THE INVICTUS GAMES’ closing concert at QE Olympic Park. This involved extensive security planning due to presence of Military, Royal Family, The Prime Minister and the US Vice-Presidential party. This involved event staff vetting and background checks, active surveillance and search operations, and participating in OPERATION GRIFFIN terrorism briefing by Met Police specialist depts.
Since going freelance in 2015 as PRODUCTION SOLUTIONS I’ve concentrated my business as Production Director / Outdoor stadium show Site Co-ordinator along with Event H&S.”
