John Langford has been in position as VP and General Manager at the world’s most popular music and entertainment venue since November 2016. Previously Director of Live Entertainment at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) where his remit included events, ticketing, sponsorship and marketing.
Having taken the helm as The O2 celebrates its tenth year of operation, renews its industry leading naming rights deal with O2/Telefonica and commits to a 205,000 sq ft retail development opening in late 2018, it is a very busy time. At the heart of a changing Greenwich Peninsula, The O2 has led the way and been a transformative force as well as a global and cultural icon in the music, comedy and sporting worlds. As part of the wider AEG family of venues globally, it’s sold 20 million tickets and welcomed over 60 million visitors since opening its doors in 2007.
A native South African, John has an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree in Business from WITS University in Johannesburg and an MBA in Strategic Marketing from the University of Hull. Before joining the team at the SEC in Glasgow, he worked for eight years as the Chief Operating Officer at BIG Concerts, South Africa’s premier live entertainment company. Prior to this, he worked in radio management at the South African Broadcasting Corporation.
John lives with his wife Lieze, and their two children (Nina and Michael) in Surrey, just a short drive from The O2. They love travelling and getting outside at the smallest promise of sunshine – usually in the family’s 1966 MGB, or on a Stand Up Paddleboard.
